ArcelorMittal is the first steelmaking company to receive the Brazilian Association of Technical Regulations (ABNT) ecological seal
The Brazilian Association of Technical Regulations (ABNT) granted its environmental-quality certificate, entitled Rótulo Ecológico ABNT, to ArcelorMittal. The Company is the first steelmaking company to receive the recognition. The certification allows clients to identify environmentally-safe products that meet the needs of civil construction.
The Rótulo Ecológico ABNT was granted after technical audits and reviews conducted on the premises of ArcelorMittal Juiz de Fora, ArcelorMittal Piracicaba, ArcelorMittal Cariacica, ArcelorMittal Itaúna and ArcelorMittal São Paulo. Valid for three years, the certificate comprises square bars, welded wire meshes, lattices, nails, lightweight profiles, lashing wires, and flat bars for civil construction.
"The Rótulo Ecológico ABNT bears testimony to the importance of the investments made in the plants of ArcelorMittal to ensure conservation of the environment throughout production", claims José Otávio Andrade Franco, Environmental Manager of ArcelorMittal Long Steel.
The ecolabelling program is a voluntary certification of environmental performance of the product, given by an unbiased independent entity. "The use of certified materials goes a long way towards ensuring that green buildings, which seek high efficiency and low social environmental impact, can be recognized by such organizations as the Green Building Council Brasil", adds José Otávio.
The products of ArcelorMittal Long Steel have incorporated this certification since 2010. At first, the Company received the Instituto Falcão Bauer de Qualidade Ecological Seal. Afterwards, it was certified with the ABNT’s Ecological Seal, which attests to the positive environmental performance of its products for civil construction.
