ArcelorMittal Tubarão presents the Environmental Agreement actions report
On October 17th, the ArcelorMittal Tubarão Operations VP, Erick Bispo, went to Palacio Anchieta (state government headquarters) to take part in the 6th Environmental Agreement monitoring meeting with the state of Espirito Santo governor, Renato Casagrande, and other authorities.
In the meeting, ArcelorMittal Tubarão presented the action report including all investment carried out to comply with the Environmental Commitment Agreement signed by the company with the state government and the federal and state public ministries.
The 114 guidelines and 131 targets set for the company have been unfolded into 310 actions. 210 of them had been set to be completed up to September and the company has complied with all of them. Besides that, the company carried out 16 voluntary actions for environmental improvement.
Among the conclude actions we highlight:
• the installation of approximately 4,000 new belt conveyor covers;
• the elimination of 8 (eight) material storage yards;
• the use of canvas truck bed covers;
• the implementation of new wheel-washers to prevent dragging of material (8 in operations and 4 under construction totalling 18);
• the use of canvas to cover three coke yards;
• the start of the work to implement a new dedusting system in the coproducts processing area to be finalized by 2021;
• the installation of a state-of-the-art hypsometer to accurately measure the size of the material piles;
Investments
The investments programmed next include the implementation of wind fences in the coal and ore yards, revamping of dedusting system, installation of wind fence in the coproducts yard, and implementation of a new steel shop top dedusting system, among others. Employees have also contributed ideas to boost and speed up the results during workshops carried out throughout the company; they presented several suggestions and 196 of them have been considered viable and are being adopted.
