Green Coverage

In partnership with the State Research, Rural Extension and Technical Assistance Institute and the Agricultural and Farming Development Institute, ArcelorMittal Tubarão developed a Green Coverage Project launched in 2017.

Since then, the company has improved and expanded the project actions whose goal is to search for the most adequate vegetation to plant in the area of the company to contribute to contain airborne particles.

The species suitable for plantation is the Velvet beans (Mucuna pruriens) grey or black, grown over the product piles in the Coproduct Storage Centre (CASP).

The Centre has an area of approximately 40 thousand m2 and is the place intended to receive the coproducts resulting from the ArcelorMittal production processes. The species are natural and ecological and do not interfere in the quality of the coproduct and prevent the dragging of particles by the wind.

The green coverage is another alternative added to several other actions implemented by the company aiming to reduce air emissions as forecast in the Environmental Commitment Agreement and with the support of the Evoluir Program, shall ensure improvements in environmental performance.
