The state of Espírito Santo will have an unprecedented Environmental Laboratory

The State Public Ministry, through the Environment Defence Operational Support Centre, signed with the company on June 5 – World Environment Day – a protocol of intentions to create an Environmental Laboratory.

An important tool which will help to support the agency in environment issues analysis. The Espirito Santo Research and Innovation Support Foundation will be responsible for the preparation of the project. Among the people attending the event there were several authorities including the Attorney General – Eder Pontes da Silva, the federal prosecutor – André Pimentel, o state prosecutor – Marcelo Lemos, ArcelorMittal Tubarão executives - Benjamin Baptista Filho (CEO) and Jorge Luiz Ribeiro de Oliveira (Operations Director).

KNOWLEDGE – ArcelorMittal Tubarão will support the initiative making available the expertise and knowledge of its scientists and sharing their capacity to create links among the researchers involved in the projects supported by the company along with the Academia. The aim is the improve environmental management in tandem with best international practices. “This is an unprecedented action in Brazil and the expectations are that it will contribute to building a more dialogic and responsible society and inspire the state production sector, the Executive, Legislative and Judiciary to work on a positive agenda to boost sustainable development finding solutions based on facts, data, science and technology”, said Benjamin Baptista Filho. The State Public Ministry Attorney General affirmed to trust the good results. “The companies have really dedicated themselves to solving the black dust problem in the Greater Vitoria area. I’m touched with this action, we are at the forefront once again”, he said. 

COOPERATION – The creation of the Public Ministry Environmental Laboratory was green-lighted during the signature of the Environmental Commitment Agreement last September which included the cooperation between the parties. “We are going to receive all the technological support and human resources to carry out analysis and researches. The management of the Environmental Lab will be the responsibility of the Public Ministry. The Espirito Santo Research and Innovation Support Foundation will help us to develop the project. The Academia and the researchers will have an important role making sure the institution enforce the rights of the population by means of a holistic and managerial view. And all of that sustainably done”, highlighted the State Public Ministry Attorney General Eder Pontes.
