New technologies for the sake of the environment
The application of polymers in piles of raw material and coproducts is one of the commitments taken on in the Agreement. This practice was already part of our controls and now it has been extended to different areas.
Today it is present in the coal yards, iron ore, lime, coproducts, among others. The purpose of using polymers is to create a protecting coat on the surface of the piles preventing the dragging by the wind or by movements inherent to the process.
And there is more. Different sorts of materials are being developed. The company has recently started using a green material of cellulosic origin. This material can be easily viewed and was applied to the Coproducts Storage Centre (CASP) and now it is being tested in the raw material yards. The product is bioorganic and does not affect the environment nor the health of those handling it.

In June 2017, a new operation was started at the polymer dosing station in the coal yard, the result of a R$1 million investment to allow the automatic application of the product increasing speed to the process. The equipment broadens the reach of the cannons to the entire coal pile and reduces the traffic of trucks inside the yards.
