Tubarão to implement diffuse emissions monitoring network
A Diffuse Emissions Monitoring Network is going to strengthen ArcelorMittal Tubarão environmental control.
A contract was recently signed with the company Ecosoft, responsible for the project implementation. The initiative is one of the most important for the plant, making it possible to measure the results of the effort made by the company in issues related to air quality improvement.
Tubarão is to become the first unit in the Group to have real-time monitoring with 60 stations and 180 sensors distributed in the main operational areas of the plant. The network will make it possible to record and monitor diffuse emissions enabling the generation of global and sectoral results.
The project includes more actions than those forecast in the Environmental Commitment Agreement (TCA), and is another initiative developed by the Evoluir Program. The company counted on the international support of the Desert Research Institute (DRI), an American research institute and reference in environmental and air-related controls.
Diffuse emissions are a measurement and control challenge. As they do not move through ducts or stackers, where it is possible to install continuous or sampling monitoring systems, they require super advanced collection, evaluation and monitoring mechanisms. The signing of the contract symbolizes the conclusion of another step and shows ArcelorMittal effort and commitment.
