In one year, we have evolved together

The Environmental Commitment Agreement signed by ArcelorMittal Tubarão, the federal and state Public Ministries and the state of Espírito Santo government completes one year this Saturday (21).

When we signed the agreement, we took up the commitment to evolve to a new level of environmental management and we are working hard to meet the decisions of the agreement.

Over that one-year time, we have already concluded 151 actions aimed to improve our environmental performance, which represents almost half of all the actions we have committed to implement by 2023. Besides those, we have already implemented other 20 actions, not included in the agreement, mapped by the company.

The actions implemented include changes in routine procedures, investment in equipment and, mainly, a change of behaviour and the commitment of four teams.

Since the start of the program, 65 workers have been recognized for outstanding actions aimed at improving our environmental performance.

Our green belt, which work as a natural barrier to reduce the effect of the wind dragging particulate matter, has also been reinforced. Over this first year of the agreement, we have planted 13.5 thousand units of different species and 63 thousand square meter of grass contributing to enrich the vegetation coverage of slopes, coproduct piles and to revitalize the areas.

We also seek to provide transparency to our actions. We carried out four presentations to community representatives to show what we have been doing and what we are going to do, and we have held five meeting with the agreement monitoring committee. We have also undergone 33 inspections, three of them specifically related to agreement conditions.

We still have a long way to go, but over this year a lot has been accomplished. We are evolving and the development is a permanent process.
