Contract to build wind fences on Tubarão’s yards is signed

ArcelorMittal Tubarão will build wind fences around the Coal and Ore yards.

The investment is part of a set of stipulations of the Environmental Commitment Agreement (TCA) in compliance with targets 22 and 30. The engineering, supply and installation contract was signed on August 11 with Medabil, the company which will carry out the project in partnership with two other companies, Fortes and DSI. This week the company organized an online meeting to formalize the signing of the contract and register this important step. The meeting was a milestone   in the development of the project, which started two years ago, and involved optimization studies, planning, bidding and more recently the choosing of the company.

Get to know the project

The wind fences are made of polyethylene meshes held by metallic structures which resist winds of 126km/h. They aim to reduce emissions of wind-dragged ore and coal from the yard piles. In all, the two areas represent over 92 thousand square meters of wind fences. The investment aims to boost the results obtained by the environmental management expanding the effects of environmental control mechanisms already installed in the plant.

Continuous Improvement

The company keeps investing on its Green Belt, formed by approximately 2.6 million trees and shrubs, a mechanism which reduces CO2 emissions, attracts biodiversity, and improves the microclimate.
