The Ministry of Tourism and ArcelorMittal present the Diversão Em Cena (Fun on Stage) program with the show “Break Time”.

The play from São Paulo is part of the ArcelorMittal Diversão em Cena program in Vitoria and will take place on August 7, with two theatre sessions at the Gloria Sesc Cultural Centre (Gloria Theatre), free of charge.

The fourth ArcelorMittal Diversão em Cena program performance tells the story of a boy in a wheelchair called Guilherme, interpreted by Luciano Brandão, who transforms the lack of accessibility for disabled students in a great and fun adventure inside the classroom, during “Break Time”.

The play, with a theme focused on education and inclusion, is directed by Fernando Lyra Jr. He uses the object theatre technique to provide movement to the scenes, transforming the classroom materials and objects into anything whatever the character imagines.

The play is free of charge, sponsored by ArcelorMittal Foundation, and takes place on August 7th at 3 and 5 pm, at the Gloria Sesc Cultural Centre in downtown Vitória. The second sessions will have a sign language translator to be more accessible. The tickets, two per person, will be made available from August 2nd, at the theatre box office, from 10 am to 7 pm.

The Diversão em Cena program is committed to making culture available to all, taking free or popular price performances to theatres, schools and public spaces in more than 60 towns. The initiative is possible thanks to ArcelorMittal sponsorship via Federal Law to Incentive Cultural Projects and locally managed by WB Produções.

More on the play:

The character Guilherme shares his stories and dreams with the audience, transforming the apparently limited classroom environment into a universe with no borders for magic, full of games and many stories. Everything around him is transformed into imaginary friends and unusual toys. The director of the play, Fernando Lyra Jr. uses the object theatre technique to provide movement to the scenes, transforming the classroom materials and objects into anything the character imagines.

Together with his inseparable friend Barbosa (the science class skeleton), Guilherme tells funny stories to the audience! The one about the girl who ate too much and fell into a hole, the one about the dog that wanted to be a turtle and was kidnapped by ETs, Guilherme becomes a TV presenter who narrates the landing of the rocket “pencil” on the planet “apple”. A fan of pranks, he tells the story of the time when he stuck chewing gum on the bathroom walls and got a scolding from the school principal.

Between one story and another, between bites in the sandwich from his lunchbox, he imagines and designs his supersonic-space-rocket-wheelchair – with rear view mirrors, spare tire, leg stretcher and water jet to scare dogs: a wheelchair that flies, with which he intends to get to places faster and explore other universes. This all happens before the bell rings to announce the end of the break and it is time to “get back to the classroom”.

Summary:

'Break Time' is a play full of fun and enjoyment. In the plot Guilherme – a boy with an incredible imagination – cannot wait for the school accessible ramps to be ready for him to finally be able to go down to the yard piloting his wheelchair at full speed as a racing car and play with his classmates. But while his mobility is restricted, he uses his “private” break to dream and dare in his adventures using his imagination.
