The first CineMarias exhibition will have shows and national movies

National attractions as the singer Assucena will be at the exhibition to take place from September 1st to 3rd at Metrópolis Movie Theatre at UFES with the exhibition of national and local short movies, workshops and creation masterclasses which will debate women’s leading role in films and in the media


The first CineMarias exhibition – Corpo é Território (The body is a territory) announced on Monday (15th) the free of charge open to the public event that takes place from September 1ts to 3rd at Metrópolis movie theatre at UFES.

 

12 Brazilian short movies will be presented in two competitive exhibition – a national and a local. Shows from the singer Assucena and the local attractions Preta Roots and Morenna  are also expected. On the first day at 10am, the TODAS ELAS from A Gazeta opens the event with a special chat on Communication and Entrepreneurship on the Peripheral Areas for young people and adults. The official opening is at 3pm with the reading of the CineMarias manifest which declares the public intentions of the exhibition and the theme of the edition is “Corpo é Território” proposing a reflection on which places the bodies of female identity hold in our society.

 

In addition, on September 2nd a UN Women lecture presents the survey Todxs conducted by the Aliança Sem Estereótipos (No Stereotype Alliance) – an idea and action platform aiming at eradicating gender stereotypes in advertising contents. The diversified program counts on themes for discussion that goes from the evolution of female characters in the world of games to the role of distribution in the visibility of women’s cinema. The CineMarias exhibition opens this year in film festivals to hold an important space for discussion on women’s leading role in the screens and the lack of gender representation as well as to foment debate on the combat of violence against cis and transgender women, transvestites and nonbinary people and to reflect on the lack of visibility of the subject in the media.

 

The event honourees are the actress Dani Ornelas and the director and documentarist Maria Augusta Ramos chosen by the power and defiance they cause in the arts each one in their respective scene and acting perspective. Female artists that with their unique voices keep occupying and revolutionizing spaces largely dominated by white men and bodies.

 

For the National Film Festival, six (6) fiction, documentary and hybrid short movies from the states of São Paulo, Bahia, Ceará and Pará have been selected. For the Local Film Festival, exclusively for works produced in the state of Espírito Santo, the other six (6) works selected include documentaries, video dances and animation. For both categories, the works will compete for the CineMarias Best Film and Best Direction Trophies and the winners will be selected by a technical jury formed by national and local audio-visual arts female professionals.

 

On the occasion the CineMarias Special Session will take place with the exhibition of eight (8)

poetry films  produced from the 20221 and 2022 Audio-visual Lab, an immersive training laboratory intended for young women (18 to 35 years old) living in the Greater Vitoria communities having an interest in learning film making and experiencing a film set environment for the first time. The participants received basic notions in script, direction and editing and also a R$600,00 allowance to integrate in the education action. Besides the short movies, the event will also present the movies Medusa, from Anita Rocha da Silveira, and Ecos da Terra, from Ursula Dart.
